About the Role

As part of the Services Team, the Director of Manufacturing will be critical in growing and managing the Operations, Manufacturing and Production relationships for some of the most progressive brands and paradigm-shifting companies in the space. The overall objective for the Director of Manufacturing is to support the Services Team on executing key operational initiatives across multiple business units, setting a foundation for growth & success for our investments and clients. This position requires a self-starter and someone who thrives in an exciting, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment.

Requirements

The Director of Manufacturing must be capable of managing multiple projects & initiatives at once, while covering all aspects of food & beverage Manufacturing, Commercialization, Cap-Ex oversight, Supply Chain & Operations. This individual thrives as a collaborative thinker, works well in teams, and has a high degree of emotional intelligence. We are looking for someone with experience in entrepreneurial environments and the flexibility to work in both highly-structured corporate settings and less-structured, start‐up environments. This individual should be comfortable reporting to and working with team members with different skill sets, areas of focus, diverse ways of thinking, backgrounds, and professional goals.


  • 10-15+ years of experience in a food manufacturing environment


  • Must have past experience working in the CPG industry for a company with $1B+ annual sales revenue


  • Ability to travel at least 25% of the time


  • Ability to forge strong relationships; ability to manage client relationships with a service-mindset


  • Demonstrated ability to select, implement/apply, and monitor traditional Continuous Improvement concepts in business/manufacturing situations and quantify the benefits to the organization


  • Expertise, understanding, and hands-on experience of a wide array of food processing technologies related to ingredient mixing, procession, and packaging covering the baking, confection, snack food, and liquid processing markets


  • Ability to create – innovate – delegate in high-stakes, problem-solving situations leading to step-change improvement in operational performance and superior customer satisfaction


  • Proven background with scaling the supply chain, procurement, production, and logistics of a complex system with co-manufacturers or self-manufactured infrastructure


  • Experience coordinating with general management of manufacturing operations (small- and large-scale) and effectively setting priorities, organizing resources and establishing success criteria for tasks such as: customer-relations management, company-wide processes and systems


  • Operated as a senior-level manager with direct financial responsibility and accountability for a monthly – quarterly – annual Profit & Loss Statement


  • Operated as a senior-level manager with direct responsibility for annual, departmental budget planning, staffing, and capital project execution


Responsibilites

  • Probe and investigate available information to develop more complete understanding of:

    • true nature of the current situation from a technical and operational execution perspective

    • desired “end game” outcome = what does success look like?

    • technical obstacles to overcome + actionable plans to address these obstacles

    • validity of the “available information” and the requirements for additional information


  • Devise and implement strategies that identify less-than-optimal manufacturing & contracted manufacturing relationships coupled with carefully executed exit/transitional action plans that relocate these relationships to “a better place”


  • Application of technical expertise to accelerate technically difficult projects to exceed original goals related to timing and operational results


  • Apply and utilize sustainable RCA/CAPA, CI and Lean Manufacturing concepts in client facilities


  • Lead the first phase of commercialization, including product trials, pilot and launch timelines


  • Work to identify and setup supply chain + manufacturing for product launches and innovative product formats


  • Identify, procure, deliver and commission Manufacturing equipment (CapEx) on budget


  • Work to implement production reporting, supply chain management processes and quality systems best practices


  • Lead company/brand calls; interacts and advises companies in the area of expertise


  • Assist in contextualizing a company's/brand's goals into the work needed to move the company forward


  • Collaborate when needed with external agencies and other vendor parties; not limited to: equipment suppliers, cap-ex financing resources, engineers, quality agencies


  • Manage partnerships with existing & potential contract manufacturer relationships
